Michael Knüppel Participated in XIII International Altay Communities Symposium
Dr. Michael Knüppel, professor with ASC (Arctic Studies Center, Liaocheng University) participated in XIII International Altay Communities Symposium hosted by the Department of Altaic Studies, the University of Szeged in Szeged, Hungary, from September 3 to 5, 2025.
This symposium focused on the practices of giving names, titles, and nicknames within Altaic communities. It covered topics such as the historical evolution and etymology of names, titles, and nicknames among Altaic communities; the naming of mythological and epic characters; the stories behind names, titles, and nicknames; cultural identity, social status, class, gender, and age-related naming conventions; traditions and rituals; function of character names in literary works; and the impact of social changes on naming traditions.
