A Session of 2026 Arctic Circle Assembly Hosted By ASC
The Arctic Circle Assembly took place on October 8–10, 2026, at Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre in Reykjavík, Iceland. More than 2,500 representatives from over 70 countries and regions attended the event.
During this Assembly, the Arctic Studies Center of Liaocheng University successfully hosted a breakout session titled "Climate and Social Changes in China’s Ewenki Reindeer Herding Communities". Lecturer Yi Lina, an Ewenki scholar from Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, Zhao Yiman and He Qihan, reindeer herders from Aoluguya Township, Genhe City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and Professor Qu Feng delivered their respective thematic presentations. This is the first time that Chinese Reindeer herders had participated in the Arctic Assembly.
Professor Qu Feng delivered an opening speech and Anders Oskal, Secretary General of the Association of World Reindeer Herders (WRH) commented on all the presentations at the end of the session.
In May 2019, the Arctic Studies Center hosted the session "Arctic Indigenous Peoples Studies" at the Shanghai Sub-forum. In October 2023, the center hosted the session "China and the Arctic: Comparative Studies on Indigenous Peoples", which marked the first time that indigenous scholars from China had participated in the Arctic Circle event.
